Improving the Recommendation of Given Names by Using Contextual Information

The people who have to choose a given name, know how challenging it is to find a suitable name that fits the social context, the language, the cultural background, and especially, the personal taste. For example, future parents end up browsing through several lists of given names in order to choose a name for their unborn child. A recommender system can help a person in this task by recommending given names which are of interest to the user. In this paper, we exploit contextual information (e.g., time and location) in two state-of-the-art recommender systems for the task of recommending given names. The empirical results have shown that we can improve the recommendation of given names by using contextual information.
